After nearly a year of being in my yard my Jeep is finally on the road. Around 2:30 am I couldn’t sleep so I decided to go for a drive. I roped these two into going with me. Sterling(the black one) loves laying in the back seat of cars, however he got carsick last night. That tends to happen if I take a curve too quickly. Sadie loved the night ride because she could actually see outside the windows, she has a problem with sight in the daylight overall it was a fun ride and we went to a place to test out the four wheel drive. I have only put 250 miles on it but I understand why David loves these XJ’s

I hope mine doesn’t sit a whole year before I can get it back on the road, but that’s looking very likely now. ‘92 2-door ax15/231 I picked up in May. Needs new floorpans, don’t know if I’ll get them welded in in the next five months though.

I bought mine not running so it didn’t bother me too much. But it’s nice now that it is going. I almost went out and bought a car when my dd broke. If mine had rust issues I probably would have said screw it to be honest.

Mine runs and drives awesome. The guy I bought it from said I was the first person to start it for almost a year when I went to check it out, sitting in some weeds beside a barn. Needed a jump but it went first hit of the key, drove it 45 miles home that day on whatever nasty old crap was in the tank, didn’t skip a beat. The old farmer who had it said it was his daughter’s ride to gigs all over the country so he always made sure maintenance was kept up on it. Even knowing how rough the floors were it was well worth the $700 I paid. I can fix the rust myself for under $500 in patch panels, and after that you’ll be hard pressed to find an XJ in as good shape around here for less than $3k, so I figure I’m pretty far ahead.

In mine the head gasket had blown and it was parked the July before I bought it(I bought it in February). So far I’m doing good I think:

$300 to buy it

$75 to get it home

$250 for a garage to disassemble and diagnose the problem(I told them to take it back to my house when their estimated price went up $400)

$80 for parts

$158 for a salvage head

$100 for head work

$437 for another garage to put my refreshed head on as well as pick it up at my house!

$47 for them to look at why the heat wasn’t working and flush it

There are still a ton of tiny things for me to address but I will still be ahead in the end. I also believe that like you it will be worth around d $3-$5k due to how nice of shape it is in.

To be honest I mostly wanted it as a manual swap donor for my MJ, but now I’m really starting to wonder. Even with the AW4 swapped back in from the MJ it’ll still be a pretty decent flip, but it almost seems too good to tear into. Not many 2-drs still around.

Not too many stock 2 doors that also run and drive. You’ve got something of a unicorn.
